Kirk Dewayne Franklin is an American choir director, gospel musician, singer, songwriter, and author. He is best known for leading urban contemporary gospel choirs such as The Family, God's Property, and One Nation Crew among many others. He has won numerous awards, including 16 Grammy Awards.
Gospel singer Kirk Franklin grew up with one foot in the church, but during his teenage years his other foot was in a pretty bad place. Abandoned by his mother and surrounded by family members battling drug addictions, Franklin became a father at a very young age.
