SDG 13 Goal
The goal we will be analysing is Sustainable Development Goal 13. This covers everything about climate change, the consequences of it and what we can do about it. Climate Action is extremely vital as it imposes wether or not our planet will survive in the near future.
Sustainable Development Goal 13 aims to “take urgent action to combat climate change and its impact”, while acknowledging that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is the primary international, intergovernmental forum for negotiating the global response to climate change.
As most know climate change is lethal towards animals especially animals from the ocean. For example plastic pollution is deadly to sea life as is encourages the growth of pathogens in the oceans, and if us as humans can't do anything about this the extinction of Earth will draw nearer and nearer each day. It is reported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) that by 2030, the planet will warm by at least 2.7°C this century.
Along with the SDG Goal there comes targets that are used by the UN to direct them on how they should work around finding a potential solution for climate change. These targets are as followed down below.
Target 13.1
One of the 3 Target is Strengthen Resilience and Adaptive Capacity to Climate Related Disasters. This means the UN wants to confirm all countries can adjust to the consequences of climate change and ensure that a result for any disasters related to the climate are discovered as soon as possible.
Target 13.2
Our 2nd Target is Integrate Climate Change Measures into Policies and Planning. This is show that the UN aim to guarantee that every person worldwide has a method to battle climate change and that those plans should be satisfied.
Target 13.3
Last but definitely not least Target No.3 is Build Knowledge and Capacity to Meet Climate Change.The UN are making sure that people know the risks of climate change through studying, via education or by the government.
Target 13.A
Target 13.A is to Implement the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.This is the goal of mobilizing jointly $100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation and fully operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible.
Target 13.B
Target 13.B is to Promote Mechanisms to Raise Capacity for Planning and Management. This shows that the UN want to advertise ways for decrease the effects of climate change in Low-income Countries. This also consists of concentrating on women, youth and local and marginalized communities.
All these targets are being used to benefit society by trying to combat climate change. They help us as well as the UN really see what goes on behind the scene.
