There is a wide range of types of dance specific to some regions and they are as follows:

African dance

African dance, performing art deeply woven into the social fabric of Africa and generally involving aspects of music and theatre as well as rhythmic bodily movement.

Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music. It was developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century. It is known for its acrobatic and complex maneuvers, often involving hands on the ground and inverted kicks.

Hiphop

Hip-hop music. Hip-hop, also spelled hip hop or hiphop is a rhythm focused popular music style, originating from New York in the 70s. The term rap is sometimes used synonymously with hip-hop music.

Waltz

The waltz is a ballroom and folk dance, normally in 3/4 time, performed primarily in closed position.The basic movement of the Waltz is a three-step sequence consisting of a step forward or backward, a step to the side, and a step closing the feet together.

Ballet

Ballet is a type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniquesused in many other dance genres and cultures.

Tango

Tango is a dance that has influences from African, Native American and European culture. Dances from the candombe ceremonies of former slave peoples helped shape the modern day tango. The dance originated in lower-class districts of Buenos Aires and Montevideo.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world, with particularly strong popularity in the U.S. and Europe.
